We are glad you found your way here. At the Praxis am Pottkamp we provide outpatient treatment across the psychodynamic and behavioural spectrum — as a statutory health insurance service within German guideline psychotherapy, and privately. In addition, Dr. Scherer runs a private psychiatric practice with a focus on ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in adults.

Many adults come to us after years of depression, anxiety or exhaustion that has not responded to the usual treatments. We examine what lies behind the difficulties — ADHD or an autism spectrum condition is one possible answer, not the only one. In Dr. Scherer’s private practice, for privately insured patients, those entitled to Beihilfe (civil-servant assistance) and self-payers.

For referring cliniciansStatutorily insured? Routes to an ADHD and autism assessment
If you are insured with a German statutory health insurer, the first route is the statutory system: your GP, psychiatric practices and hospital or specialist outpatient clinics that accept statutory insurance, and the appointment service on 116 117. At our practice the assessment is a private service under the German fee schedule (GOÄ). If an appointment for the assessment cannot be obtained within the statutory system in reasonable time, you can apply to your insurer to reimburse the costs of a private assessment (§ 13 (3) SGB V). The template works for every insurer and every practice and includes step-by-step guidance and a log for your appointment enquiries; the application itself has to be in German, so the form is German with an English translation beneath each passage. Please inform yourself in advance and clarify the question of costs with your insurer before booking an appointment.
Treatment and assessment in English
The whole of this website is available in English, and so is the work itself: consultations, structured interviews, the feedback session and the written report can be conducted in English. The assessment of ADHD and autism spectrum disorder is the service most often asked for in English; the fee information is available in English as a PDF.
Not every questionnaire exists in a validated English version. Where we have to fall back on a German form, or where the norms come from a German-speaking sample, the report says so.
If this is an acute emergency, we are not the right place. A practice that works by appointment cannot help quickly enough in an acute crisis. In Germany, emergency services are available around the clock on 112 and the out-of-hours medical service on 116 117. The telephone counselling service Telefonseelsorge is free of charge and always available on 0800 111 0 111 and 0800 111 0 222.
